Dr. B.R. Ambedkar - Biography

Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on 14 April, 1891 at Mhow (now Dr. Ambedkar Nagar) of central province (now Madhya Pradesh). He was the last 14th child of Bhimbhai Sakpal and Ramji Sakpal  His family was rooted to Ambadawe, town of Ratnagiri district Maharashtra. He was born in a poor Mahar(A dalit caste) family.

His father was working in British Indian  Army ranked as Subedar. His childhood was not very glossy and at every phase of his life, he faced caste discrimination and untouchability. The first experience of untouchability for him was the day when barber refused to cut his hair it was not that, he was unable to pay the barber it was due to caste discrimination, you can imagine the insult he had faced at that time. problem were there in the school too, where he had been treated unequal. He used to sit outside of the classroom. Ambedkar wanted to study sanskrit but no teacher wants to pollute sanskrit language by teaching it to an untouchable. In his school, he were neither allowed to touch the water nor the vessel, he could drink water only with the help of others else he had to go without water. Despite all of social hurdles, he worked very hard and he proved one among the world's intellectuals.

Constitution is the fundamental law of our country. Do you know who have done the extremely difficult task of making the constitution of our country? That is Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, as the chairmen of drafting committee of the constitution, He studied many constitution across the world to provide the best constitution to India. He took the best provision of different constitution of the world, and transformed those according to the requirements of our country.
There have been a rational discussion in the parliament on each provision of it and finally on 26th January 1950 India became a republic. You will be surprised that our constitution is the largest written document of the world.
Our constitution privileged the principles of Equality, Liberty, Justice, Fraternity, Secularism, Democracy etc. Our political administrative, Judicial machinery draws power and authority from the constitution . Ambedkar has introduced many inclusive measures of affirmative action for the social-economic marginalized sections of the society. Ambedkar with this constitution tried to establish an equal and egalitarian society. Ambedkar is the first Law Minister of Independent India had priority to encourage the condition of women in India. He proposed Hindu code bill to ensure civil rights to women Like, marriage, divorce, property, adoption, etc. but unfortunately due to opposition in the parliament the bill could not be passed. As a reaction Ambedkar resigned from the cabinet for the sake of women's rights. However, Ambedkar can be looked as the crusader for establishing woman's rights in India. 

Ambedkar, conversion and death

Ambedkar was born in Hindu family but died as a Buddhist. Unfortunately, there are prejudices about Ambedkar that he is an enemy of Hinduism but he wanted just society. He always wished to found a rational, egalitarian Hindu social order but by the end of 1935 he has lost all hopes and decided to convert himself into Buddhism. However, he declared his conversion on 13th October 1935, but converted into Buddhism on 14th October 1956. Since 1948 , Ambedkar has been suffering from ill health and this made him passive in his socio-political life. Ambedkar died in his sleep on 6th December 1956 at his home, 26 Alipur road, Delhi, presently known as Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial. Dr. Ambedkar is a symbol of versatile knowledge and sacrifice and person like him are immortal.
